I recently had the wonderful opportunity to visit with my Pepperdine University – Graduate School of Education and Psychology’s Doctor of Education – Learning Technologies friends (family) regarding for and non-profit Edu-Preneurship (Education/Learning Technologies Entrepreneurship) for community capacity building. The main topics include corporation development basics, Federal certifications and contracting, and work-life balance themes.

Many thanks to Colleen Brazill-Murray for the kind speaking invite, Alex Sedique for the video creation and flier, Character First (OKC, OK)  for the meeting space, and the Pepperdine’s Ed.D-Learning Tech Program (Linda Polin- Program Co-Founder/Chair) for providing me with a launch pad to support this effort… You can download the video recording here:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/fctr…/J-Conference%20copy%202.mov…

So, What are Indigenous Research Methods?

3/1/2014

Spent last night working on an in-depth, publishable review of a new culturally-responsive research methods book (significant Indigenous research methods component) that I am co-writing with another newly minted Dr. (she’s a Ph.D. out of A.S.U via U.C. Davis). I absolutely loved this book and read every word in one day. I must say that after very recently having a colleague ask me in a perplexed state, “What are Indigenous research methods?”, I am so pleased to have co-authored this review. Considering that a significant number of our global population operate off Indigenous thought/cultural systems, it might behoove (for numerous mutually beneficial reasons) our thought leaders to seek to understand and respond to their distinct Indigenous Peoples (even in urban settings) affordances.

E-Pub’ing the Chapter 5

3/1/2014

Now that I am back in writer mode, our benevolent universe decided to gift me with a wonderful online epub’er. This is a huge gift since I’ve spent many hours looking for the perfect option, to no avail, in the past. So, I’ve spent the a portion of the morning uploading my dissertation chapter 5, “Native American women leaders utilization of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for work-life balance” to this great service (more later). I am still debating whether or not to send my article to a refereed/peer-reviewed journal because I have serious questions about these journals overall benefit to society. Since my work is unique (nationally/globally) and cannot be replicated, I am not concerned about being the first to pub. and am really taking my time to determine the best path to sharing “my” creation and my participants sacred stories for the greater good. In the meantime, those of you who know me well, will appreciate how much I love the fact that this service offers a write in *stealth mode* option!

Teachers Rock – That’s All

After a whirlwind visit to the City of Angels (LA) to attend my Pepperdine Alumni Leadership Council Winter Session meeting (more later) last Friday, 2/21, I was welcomed back in the Bay Area with these two wonderful messages from my Touro University Master’s of Ed. Innovative Learning students:

I am especially grateful that our class went well since I landed at LAX at 4pm. I then rushed to pick up my car rental and then to Pepperdine to get online to meet my students by 7:30pm. The students were amazing and it was one of my best classes ever. Kip Glazer, a second year Pepperdine Doctor of Learning Technologies student, is a friend and I am very happy that my students are citing her work! I am also beyond grateful that my students are appreciating our time together.

Although, I have and will likely continue to have my feet in numerous professional “worlds”, I have always known that I was meant to be a teacher and cherish my huge community of teacher friends and family. While I hope to be a successful entrepreneur and researcher, I will always place supreme importance on being a good teacher/facilitator.

Passion + Engagement = The Beginning of Everything!

I just spent the last 3 hours on email..!. My little INTJ self, who historically doesn’t like to talk on the phone and “mingle”, is now (have been) responsible for communicating with key P-16 stakeholders throughout CA re: STE(A)M integration. I find it a bit of a cosmic joke that I have to do something I’d rather not for something that I am very passionate about. The funny part is that I am actually loving all of the interaction with great new friends, while expanding my already wonderful community on-line and in-person. #universe+3 #evolve #neversaynever

After a good lesson by Beth yesterday that I chose the right life path to becoming a classically trained, innovative-tech educator (oxymoron?), I woke up this morning to the email above reminding me that I have ultimately chosen the Edu-prenuer path (a hybrid of education and entrepreneurship/business for the greater good). When you click on the link: www.edhorizons.org of the first picture (actual email), our article, “Edu-prenuership for the Greater Good” is the top link, “Career Tracks Educational Entrepreneur” of the second picture. #grateful #humbled
